I've set my site up with HTML/JavaScript/PHP using DreamWeaver. You can also have both HTML and WordPress. I've got a WordPress page embedded in my HTML so that my blog appears to be part of the page. As previously mentioned, a content management system (CMS) might be of use for routine updates. Drupal and Joomla are popular ones. I've never pursued either but if I had a lot of updates to do or wanted to hand the mainenance off to someone who wasn't very technical I might consider looking into them.

A friend and I have a pretty simple web site; one which we designed and
maintain for our high school class. Pretty much pure HTML with a few Java
Scripts.
Right now, whenever someone's address or such changes, they forward it to
me, and I use a text editor to change it. Mike (my partner), who honestly
is the primary designer, wants to migrate it to something called Wordpress,
which I've googled. His reasoning is that it will be easily to make such
changes; i.e., he or I could just make them direct on the server, no FTP
needed.
Well, I'm not sure that's a compelling reason, but I'll let that slide.
My question is: What do you use to maintain a web site, and what do you
think about it? I guess I'm really asking about IDEs, such as Dream Weaver
and Wordpress, but I'm sure there are others in the wild.
Like I said, it's a real simple site; no order processing involved! .-)
