Just to comment on David's remark re Drupal.

I don't know what version he used and it did have a reputation for being difficult - but the version 7 was very easy to install and setup and apart from having to learn some "drupalese" (which is true of all of them - they all have their own terminology) I had very few problems. But if you you use Drupal Gardens it is even easier.

Right now, whenever someone's address or such changes, they forward

something called Wordpress, which I've googled. His reasoning is
that it will be easily to make such changes; i.e., he or I could just
make them direct on the server, no FTP needed.

Wordpress is a very feature rich blogging system that CAN be used to create static web sites.

I'm very familiar with Wordpress. geekyramblings.net, imho.midrange.com, and a number of other blogs I host are run with Wordpress. My wife's church's website is also hosted on Wordpress.

If all you want is a content management system, you might want to look at Drupal ... but, in my experience, that's pretty complex to setup.
