If you only need the field descriptions of the file new file, then QUSLFLD is a much easier API to deal with. -Bob -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jonathan Mason Sent: Friday, October 01, 2004 3:05 AM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: RE: Finding Field Reference File information for Database Files Hi Scott Thanks for that, I'll have a look at the documentation. I want to avoid using DSPFFD to an outfile primarily for performance reasons. The program may be called for individual database files interactively or for complete libraries in batch and I want to minimise the time taken to run. Plus, of course, there's the opportunity of getting to grips with API programming - I've done a bit in the past year, but not enough that I have to keep going back to the manuals and previous programs. Though, personally, I'm having a hard time understanding why you wouldn't want to use DSPFFD to an *outfile. --- Scott Klement http://www.scottklement.com -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l. -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
