  The original scenario produced both a floating currency symbol 
and a right negative sign\symbol for the character representation of 
the numeric value, plus optionally producing blank for zero values, 
none of which would appear to be handled by the given function that 
addresses only trailing zeroes and even adds the digit zero for a
