IP, is IP, is IP.  If you can ping the printer, then it shouldn't matter if
they are on your local LAN or on the internet.  What will matter if there
is a firewall somewhere blocking sending data to the printer.

The printer is not directly connected to the 400. There is no network
connection between them other than the internet.

You should be able to set up an output queue and point it to the IP address
of the printer.  That is, if you're directly connected.  I'm not sure if
you can proxy printer streams from intranet to internet.
