Um, sure it does, both! There is nothing in SQL that should require me to
have a unique key. If the update identifies a single record update a single
record if the update identifies 100 records update 100 records. This is a
set-oriented language, no? I'm not aware of a single other database that
requires unique rows.

Because if there are 2 records with itemno equal to 12345
which one do you want it to update?  You may know you want
it to update the first one, or the second one, or both of
them, but the ODBC doesn't know.

Itemno may be unique, but then again maybe not, why does IBM's ODBC driver
care?
