You might want to check out WDDX (http://www.openwddx.org/) which is a tool
of sorts that allows you to pass sets of data between programs, including
Java Script so it could be used in a browser situation.  I have only
researched it a little and have used it zero.  One of our sister companies
uses it to pass shopping basket information back and forth.  This would
allow you to pass an entire result set to the browser and display 50 records
at a time.  You could also search this result set without going back to the
server.
