Absolutely.  With IBM's Java toolbox I can use Java to call any program,
incoke any command, read any data, and access any object on the i5.


Did I understand correctly that EGL is an outgrowth of IBM's CSP?

Yup.  Akthoguh it's come a long way, you still see some of the roots in the
data definitions, for example, which allow you to specify structures using
COBOL-like levels.
