Hi Ralph,

<<Do you have WDSc RSE with the IFS directory listed? Deploying via
WDSc to the IFS is very straightforward if you are using it.>>

I use wdsc 7 but basically for editing RPGIV batch programas (for using with
html).

btw, I've found info about an 3rd party captcha generator that is command
line:

http://www.retrologic.com/capture-main.html
Since it runs on the command line, RetroCapture can be used to generate
CAPTCHA security images for web-applications written in any development
language, not just in Java."

the demo images are really complex for me, I think the normal users can get
errors in typing from these complex images (I like more the idea of
selecting one from several images doing a click):

Thanks very much for your interest,
Guillermo.

well, this has been eye opening. After seeing what all was involved
with Java to create CAPTCHA's, I took a look at PHP because I knew my
phpBB forum software wasn't that complicated. On the otehr hand, neither
is the CAPTCHA.

To generate good CAPTCHA's is mostly done with the GD PHP graphics
library. But then that's getting up there in complexity with the Java
graphics library, so no shortcuts there.

The Java package that looked most promising is
org.apache.myfaces.custom.captcha.util. I pulled that code into a
project. I need to go get some more supporting classes, but they're all
Apache. There is one use of HTTPServletResponse (or something close to
that), but I commented out that import and will replace whatever is
being done there with something else appropriate.

The Java code out there is understandably servlet oriented, so what
we want is a jar that ends up with a CAPTCHA PNG (or JPG or GIF) file as
output without any other interactions.

Will be interesting code to get working and post in any event.
