I think the number one reason would be for portability. If you use
MySQL it would be easier to move your application to a Windows or Unix
server.

In the very near future IBM & MySQL are going to come out with a
database driver for MySQL that would actually make it store data in DB2.
I'm pretty excited about that - it would let the website use MySQL to
access DB2 data, meaning RPG programs can access it natively.

Why would you choose to use MySQL database instead of the native DB2
databases with PHP when you're running PHP on the iSeries?



Is there something inherently easier in using MySQL with PHP as opposed

using, say, a physical file?



I am at a crossroads where I could choose to do it either way. My
inclination is to use the native DB2 but I'm open to suggestions as to
why
it might be better to use a MySQL database instead.
