So, there is no licensed product to install or anything like that? Or is
MySQL installed completely out of the i install process?
I ask since our system admins are telling me that there is a cost
associated with installing MySQL but my suspicion is that this is not the
case. I had asked to get the PTFs to support the DB2 for i storage engine
and that is when I was told that they can't do it due to a cost for MySQL
on the i.

There's a "Community Edition" of MySQL, which is free of charge, and
support is provided via community sources, such as forums.
There's also an "Enterprise Edition" where MySQL provides commercial
support. (This costs money.)
