I agree that these "smart devices" open up new possibilities for
applications. But I also believe that the bigger need for IBM i shops
is for access to their "everyday" information typically from their ERP
or custom files. Like you said, product inventory... Lots of
possibilities such as sales data, purchasing, manufacturing exceptions,
order status, etc. It is valuable to be able to access this data while
the user is in a plane, commuting, at their child's softball game,
diner, at the gym, or waiting for their lunch order. Probably 80% data
lookups and 20% "light" transactions such as approving an order,
transferring funds, etc. These kinds of applications are a great fit
for mobile web apps. I agree with you that the new stuff is more fun to
work with like the QR apps, GPS, camera,etc. -Paul
