If you ever get the chance, Google for the "Guru's Cat", a great parable about the perpetuation of practices for the wrong reasons (which seems to apply here). I'll tidy up the permissions even a little more. Turns out that adding QTMHHTP1 permissions to the folder and file fixed the permissions issue. All is well...for now.
