As to using RPG, there's a Redbook out there on stored procedures, 
triggers, and UDFs (user-defined functions). It's a bit long in the 
tooth, yet gives you the option you have for these things. You should be 
able to find it at 
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg246503.pdf - the redbook 
site can also point you to some extra material, such as some VB 
examples, I think.

There are a couple newer items that will be more up-to-date, I think.
