Just so I'm clear, you are referring to the specific MVC frameworks that were raised in this thread, right? I also guess it matters how one interprets "directly interchangeable."

Just trying to understand both sides of this particular point. We want to move towards a services based architecture (evolution, not big bang), and the interchangeability of web services with other ways of accessing data seems relevant.

The purpose of MVC is to separate your data access method from your
presentation layer. Rest Web Services do not however replace the "M"odel
in MVC, they are simply used by the Model layer the same way ODBC/JDBC
access is.


I understand the purpose of MVC. But I'm having difficulty understanding
whether you may be talking about how MVC conceptually might work vs. what's
actually implemented in MVC frameworks.
