We have had the same issue's with DECS...it seems that DECS is just the
teaser to get you to buy LEI.

Dave,

Thanks for the quick response.

I have to ask, what good IS DECS if it can't recognize new records added to
the remote database? Do you have to end/init keys/restart the activity
every
time new records are added to the native database? That seems worthless to
me. I thought decs was "real-time"!

At this point, LEI isn't in the budget.

I can change my design to have the volatile file be "display only" and allow
notes to do all adds/updates to a separate file.

You mentioned prompting for the key values in a form - Is it possible to use
something similar to "reload" the view? I am only displaying a subset of
records in the view now. Can I do something to force decs retrieve the data
for
a view, thus picking up and removing new/deleted records?

Thanks,
Richard Baird

You have found one of the limitations of DECS, the keys have to exist onthe
Notes side for updates and deletes. Another limitation is that thedata is
only updated on form open, thus if you have data being kept inNotes, it is
only as fresh as the last time the document was opened. Wefound that the
best way to use DECS was to have a form prompt you for a key(which can be a
lookup to a backend DB), then set that key in the form sothat DECS will act
on it.A way to get around some of these issues could be to utilize LEI
(LotusEnterprise Integrator). Although it is not free, it may be a better
fitfor what you are trying to accomplish. Thanks,Dave GuerreroTeam Leader
