The command interface is relatively slow. As security in QSYS is controlled at the command level, and not at the program level, this proved to be unacceptable security for some users. The APIs were developed to be user callable. (APIs are *USER domain, QSYS CPPs are *SYSTEM domain.) Level 40 prohibits you from calling *SYSTEM domain programs.
