But all our 400s are behind the firewall. If FIREWALL is
*NO, is it going to be able to get out?

Does your firewall block outbound connections to port 25?

The FIREWALL(*YES) means that all outbound mail, no matter what, is sent to the machine designated in the MAILROUTER parameter. Obviously, setting MAILROUTER to *NONE won't work with FIREWALL(*YES), because you've effectively told it to send all e-mail to *NONE :)

FIREWALL(*NO) means that it tries to deliver the mail directly to the recipient's SMTP server, and does not go through a mail router unless the DNS lookup fails.

Also, I can't currently PING my personal ISP, or
www.google.com, from either of our 2 main
network-connected 400s. I can, however, ping them from the
PC I'm typing this from. And so far, none of my attempts
to send email from any 400 have borne any fruit.

What does PING have to do with anything? Last I checked, PING is not able to send e-mail!!
