Next time try <CTRL> + <ALT> + <DEL>

I have seen this and the three finger salute above brings up the task manager. You can go to File - New Task and type in explorer.exe and the boot up will finish. For some reason the boot up fails to start explorer which is needed to provide the desktop, start menu...
