I guess I misunderstood some of that earlier, sorry. Does the manufacturer have any newer updates than what you have on the driver CD?

With all of the issues you've had, and if there are no cutting-edge updates from the manufacturer, then your easiest solution does indeed seem to be to purchase and install a known-compatible video card.

This happened even before I loaded the first Windows update. It happened
when I first loaded the drivers that came with the motherboard. I loaded
them all at once, rebooted, and that's when it first happened. I reverted
to before the install, installed them one at a time and rebooted.
Everything was good until I ran Windows Update and then it happened again.
I reverted and things were OK for awhile and then it quit on its own
without installing anything.
