Probably not perfect but you could only respond to custno 12345 from their corporate IP address. Or use
https://myspace/mysalesprogram.pgm?custno=12345&item=123456&key=67FTE5FTE*3yg*#^gd8a8873
key is issued by you to custon 12345

Very simple

you have a price lookup

http://myspace/mysalesprogram.pgm?custno=12345&item=123456

returns
price:125.00

let retrun the service

http://myspace/mysalesprogram.pgm?custno=54321&item=123456

returns
proce: 45.00

is this smart ?

Joe,

you obviously dosn't have a clue of the security issues a REST
enabled application has to handle - HTTPS dosn't solve anything and
SOAP is out of the
question
when
you talk about iPhone Apps that has to "speak" with 50 REST services
on
the
server.
