Rob, I believe it would have successfully used the QCONSOLE device descriptoin if a manual IPL was done, regardless of the setting for QAUTOCFG. ...Neil rob@xxxxxxxxx Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx 2003/09/16 14:04 To Midrange Systems Technical Discussion <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc Subject RE: Op's console versus W2K SP4 Would it really auto-configure if someone had renamed the command CRTDEVDSP to CRTDEVDSPX like what happened here? QAUTOVRT is a sick joke. To stop iSeries Access from creating sessions, (which runs CRTDEVDSP under the covers) you have to rename the command. This was a server only machine that had no need for people to have sessions on it. Rob Berendt -- Chris Bipes <chris.bipes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx If you IPL'd in manual mode, the console would auto-configure and you could create your new console for your controlling subsystem. Now your win98 PC operations console died. You are running V4R4. The new PC is running XP. Your shop is pure Linux, except for the operations console. Try getting it working. I bet you I can walk someone over the phone to configure the new twinax console faster than an XP operations console expert can tell you where to down load the right patches for XP.
